At Positive Shift we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Disabled people through our specialised Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services. Our approach is rooted in a person-centred and evidence-informed neuro-affirming practice framework that focus on understanding, prioritising and addressing the unique needs of each person we support.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support is a person-centred, values and rights-based framework aimed at improving the overall well-being of individuals by promoting capable environments. Our approach to PBS supports reductions in distressed behaviour while upholding rights and values, resulting in outcomes that are valued by the person and those that support them. Our PBS practice incorporates all our core values to help bring meaningful change to people's lives.
Who is it for?
PBS delivered by Behaviour Support Practitioners is for the focus person, where behaviours of concern are impacting themselves and others. It is a collaborative approach that emphasises full and holistic assessment, developing evidence-informed and person-centred strategies for the person and those that implement the Behaviour Support Plans (such as families, support workers, school staff, and the focus person).
How can it help?
Improvements in family and other relationships, health, well-being, personal safety and the safety of others, as well as reductions in restrictions are some of the outcomes of PBS. This is often seen in reduced distressed behaviours and restrictive practices, stronger relationships, health, as well as values-based and person-centred goal attainment.
Positive Shift acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and the Traditional Owners of the land on which our office resides, the Turrbal people. We recognise their continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
